It has never attained an altitude of more than seven feet :confused_ma:

Re: Getting outta Dodge
I'm sure with a little American ingenuity, it could be made to get the job done. After all, with all the upgrade Civic engine parts we've got ... 133hp isn't a challenge.

Re: Getting outta Dodge

You're right there. But that's what caught my eye about this Nigerian homespun. It made 7 feet without flying apart. That it got off the ground at all, with a Civic engine, for me makes it worth investigating. He's done some things right, dirt cheap.

Re: Getting outta Dodge
They are some very clever, creative people in Africa. Unfortunately many of their fellows are not very good people and that makes it hard on the rest. I think he did a great job for a first try at a very complex machine.
You might want to look at an autogyro instead of a helicopter, though. They have most of the benefits of a heli but are safer, less complex and easier to fly. James Bond's Little Dolly(iirc the name) was actually an autogyro, not a helicopter. |
Re: Getting outta Dodge
Actually, my personal choice would be this or something similar .. with the engines in pods at the rotor ends. I've seen one up close, but with prop engines at the tips. Worked very well, since there's no need for a gearbox to overcome the mechanical advantage of the long rotor blades. Comes up to speed very quickly. But I like that the Nigerian one .... tried for a 4 seater. Very seldom will you find a kit that carries more than the pilot.
